Welcome to the site of the Bullitzer Prize, an annual collection of the best essays written by students in first-year composition courses (ENC 1101 and ENC 1102) at the University of South Florida. After being nominated by an instructor, students may submit essays written for composition courses or a series of their most engaging blog/discussion board posts written for class (copied into a single document for uploading). Winning students will receive a $100 gift certificate to our campus bookstore, and instructors who nominate winners will receive a $50 certificate as an incentive for getting the best student writing into the Bullitzer!
Our submission cycle is governed by calendar year, not school year. Therefore, essays written for courses in Spring 2009, Summer, and Fall 2009 will be considered for a single prize book to be published in Spring 2010. Submissions are due by the last day that instructors submit grades each semester; in Fall 2009, submissions are due by December 15, 2009.
Student essays or blog posts must be nominated by an instructor, but students upload their own work. So if you are a student, be sure to act in this order:
- Get the log-in information to the upload site from your instructor, who will only give it to you if he or she nominates your essay for the prize.
- Then, click the image above to upload your work. This process will include your acceptance of our terms of submission.
