USF Bullitzer Prize

Welcome to the site of the Bullitzer Prize, an annual collection of the best essays written by students in first-year composition courses (ENC 1101 and ENC 1102) at the University of South Florida. After being nominated by an instructor, students may submit essays written for composition courses or a series of their most engaging blog/discussion board posts written for class (copied into a single document for uploading). Eight winning students will receive a $25 Starbucks gift certificate.

Our submission cycle undergoing a change this year. Our next collection of Bullitzer essays will be published in our Fall 2010 custom textbook and will consist of essays written for courses in Spring 2009, Fall 2009, and Spring 2010. Submissions are due by May 1, 2010.

Student essays or blog posts must be nominated by an instructor, but students upload their own work.  So if you are a student, be sure to act in this order:

  1. Get the log-in information to the upload site from your instructor, who will only give it to you if he or she nominates your essay for the prize.
  2. Then, click the image above to upload your work.  This process will include your acceptance of our terms of submission.
